Anthony and Theresa have been blessed with two daughters Hannah and Rebekah.
We are a family church committed to Jesus Christ and to loving and serving each other and the broader Gardens community. We want to build a church where you can meet with ordinary people serving an extraordinary God. With a devotion to the Cause of Christ, we believe in a relational God who wants to be active in our day to day lives, striving to see all men and women reach their potential in Christ. We believe Christianity should be both meaningful and enjoyable, so our heart is set on a Church that has three simple elements :-
We believe that God can use anybody as long as we are available. If He
is using us, then He can use you
Real – dealing with the real needs and issues
of real people.
Relational – people orientated and Christ centered.
Relevant – Jesus for a contemporary culture. We
believe God works in us so that He can work through us.
The initial inspiration for Christian Lifestyle Gardens came to Anthony whilst reading Rick Warren’s book The Purpose Driven Church: “…whilest reading I wondered what it would take to plant a church, never expecting to discover the answers firsthand only a few years later. God has been good and very faithful.” After occupying various premises in the local area during the first year, the property on Wembley Road was donated to the church and the congregation soon established the venue as a vibrant place of worship. Built on top of an old house and previously used as a furniture showroom, the venue has a distinctly “studio-like” appeal and boasts beautiful views of Table Mountain. “It makes for a perfect modern church!” says Anthony.
Anthony Aldum has been the senior pastor at Christian Lifestyle Gardens since its establishment in 2002. Previously he worked as a youth-pastor at Camps Bay United Church (CBUC) whilst completing a degree in Theology and Education at Cornerstone Christian College. Following his graduation in 1996, Anthony joined the full-time staff and was later appointed assistant pastor under the Rev. Roger Horwood.
It was during this period that Anthony and Theresa met and were married. “It took a mutual friends wedding in East London and twenty hours of travelling together for us to meet and fall in love,” Anthony says. Whilst completing her studies (B.A. Theology and Psychology) Theresa worked as the Ministries Co-ordinator at CBUC and later managed the CBUC offices.
In June 2002 Anthony and Theresa were given the opportunity to start a church plant out of CBUC and so it was that Christian Lifestyle Gardens was born.
In March 2006 Christian Lifestyle Gardens was released by CBUC and our church plant became a fully constituted church. It was at that time Anthony began a relationship with the Assossiation of Vineyard Churchs (AVC) which culminated in Christian Lifestyle Gardens joining AVC in early 2008. Although we are not a Vineyard Church by name, being part of the association means we are totally committed to the Vineyard Values and have put ourselves under their leadership and authority and are accountable to them.
